When Tragedy Comes Close to Home
This Saturday started off like a typical Saturday with Ray's game; it was scorching hot reminding us of the summer's arrival. We had plans to visit the Allen Premium Outlets, but God had a different plan for us. Unexpectedly, the day took a sharp turn, leaving us in a state of shock and sadness. We received messages on social media about a shooting incident that took place at the Outlets. It was a devastating and surreal moment for us, as the Allen Premium Outlet is a familiar and beloved place which we often visit for shopping. The incident made us feel as if the tragedy had happened in our own backyard.
The incident left us feeling a mix of emotions, ranging from shock and horror to anger and frustration. We couldn't believe that such a heinous act had taken place in a Mall where our families and friends go to have a good time. 8 victims lost their lives. 8 innocents including a 3 year old kid.
It also brought to the forefront the need for stricter gun control laws in the country. The ease with which guns can be obtained in the United States is a matter of concern, and incidents like this only serve to highlight this fact. How is it fair for people to not feel safe going out to a mall? How is it fair for families to be afraid of sending kids to school? It was Uvalde a year ago, Allen this year. How many disasters will it take for the politicians to take required action by settting aside politics and doing something for general good?
It's high time that lawmakers take action to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. I hope we come out of our medieval mindset and support common sense Gun control.
Om Shanti!
